Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5

Over-hyped?! Possibly, don't get me wrong, the game looks awesome, especially in 3D. It's just that when you compare it to what has come before, that's when the question marks appear. The game could have been so much more. After playing the game for a few days, there are a lot of features that were already available in GT4 - like taking a phot of your car. My main gripe is when it comes to the premium and standard cars. Basically they have imported a lot of car models from GT4, but this has meant that these cars don't get damaged (which is somewhat limited anyway!), but also means, frustratingly, you can't do things like change the wheels of a standard model car, or select a standard model car to be used for the photo location feature, where you are whisked away to a picturesque location to snap photos of your car. Trying to race against a friend could have been made a lot more simple. It shouldn't require as much effort as it does to simply have a race. Also the home menu screen is somewhat confusing too. And why when you go into two play do the pit crew not appear. But instead you get, as witht the previous GT game your car just lifts magically up into the air, surely with increased processing they can have the pit crew appearing now?

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13

I thought it was only me but when I talked to others about it I realised I wasn't alone! What I'm talking about is getting to grips with the similar sounding names of races or peoples i.e. lacie, pulse lacie, fal lacie etc. Trying to remember which is which can provide somewhat of a mind-boggle! Apart from that, the game looks great. There is a fair amount of graphocal tearing, if you're viewing the game through a standard definition tv set though. Amazingly I hardly ever found the need to use any summons, and simply relied upon just battering the enemies, via staggering then unleashing Fang on them :-). The main character doesn't seem as domineering as previous chief protagonists of games gone before, whihc was a bit strange. Overall a decent game, loved the Jurassic Park like areas, whith roaming dinosaurs that can kick you ass, just by stomping!

Battlefield Bad Company 2

Battlefield

This fills the void you may feel while playing modern warfare. It's all good calling in an attack helicopter. But what if you can be sitting in the pilot seat and flying it around attacking people. That's where battlefield comes in. You can drive a tank, jeep, attack helicopter - recreate Blackhawk Down if you wish. The sound engineering on theis game is really top class. Be too near an explosion and your hearing is temporarily lost and replaced with loud ringing in the game. An awesome game!!!

Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2

modern warefare 2

When I first got this game I couldn't stop playing it. It takes you a while to find your weapon of choice, but when you do... that's really when the fun begins! Was shocked when a little radiation logo appeared on-screen with a countdown - and a nuclear bomb going off as a killstreak was quite some experience. For those just starting out, experiencing being snuck up from behind by a dual sawn-off shotgun weilding player, can be a real source of frustration to those less experienced with the game. Not entirely convinced of the whole prestige thing. It does provide an easy way to extend the life of the game, but means you have to grind again for all the weapon attachements and perks which you lose if you decide to prestige. Although you do get prestige only game options.

Having played Black Ops, I found myself coming back to this game after realising I much prefered the perks from Modern Warefare 2.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2

On an initial inspection, this game is just Dynasty Warriors re-skinned to be a gundam game. But if you've ever played one of the more recent gundam games you will be more than aware of one of the drawbacks of these games is the limited playing environment. Using the dynasty warriors engine has now allowed for battles to be fought on a far more vast terrain or environment. If you've played a dynasty or samurai warriors game before then there really isn't really much that is new here. But if, like me, you love the gundam universe then you can;t really go wrong with this game. For me just, boosting around the enemies and attacking from various attack angles is quite enjoyable - especially since the movement is so smooth. My only main gripe with this game is that it doesn;t feature the gundams from Gundam 00 and that you can't play as Big Zam; although it's still enjoyable to watch the Big Zam's use their main beam cannon.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Due to the long wait for Gran Turismo 5, I had to get this game to fill the craving I had to drive cars in glorious HD. As with the previous GT Prologue game, this is just a teaser to stop all those PS3 petrolheads going insane from waiting fro GT5. A good game (bought mine for really cheap), only gripe is that due to all the asthetics of the menu system, it can become frustrating waiting for the options to appear - and how slow it can be become when navigating the the different areas of the game.

Little Big Planet

Little Big Planet

This game may not be everyone's cup of tea.... but it is a good game nevertheless. Reaching back toward an era of classic platforming gameplay, this game does it with a modern twist with stunning visuals especially if vieweed on a HD tv and a top notch physics engine that will impress - whether you like the game or not. Coupled together with an excellent tutorial features (which are entertaining in themselves) - this game is an essential PS3 game to add to your collection. A lot has been made of the create your own level feature, with people recreating classic levels from Super Mario and Sonic - some player created levels however had to be removed due to copyright infringements, which is a shame. You can also download skins for your little character... I found the Street Fighter ones very amusing!

Street Fighter 4

Street Fighter 4

The main reason behind me getting a Playstation 3 - nothing beats a bit of Old Skool Street Fighter action. They've gone for a striped down Street fighter that gets back to basics, a brilliant game that rolls back the years. Many of the combinations I used to pull off in my youth still work, and I was churning it up from the get go! The game looks great, especially the facial expressions and the ability to play people oer the web is great. Allowing people to challenge you from over the world while you are playing through arcade made is really fun. The whole Street Fighter 2 gang are all present, with a few new faces and some Super Street Fighter chracters thrown in too. The fact that there are talks that new characters may be available to buy proves that this game is in for the long run, with the producers able to update content at any time.

Metal Gear Solid 4

Metal Gear Solid 4

Well what can I say! If you've ever played any Metal Gear Solid games then you know what to expect. Just a whole lot more. This game is a little hard on the PS3 hard drive space, but that's only because the Blu-ray disc is jam packed with lots of eye-watering cut scenes and other goodies. An essential PS3 game.
