Born in 8th August 1961, David Howell Evans (The Edge), is the lead guitarist in the rock band U2. Despite being born in Barking, East London, The Edge considers himself from Dublin, Ireland.

The edge has four daughters, three from his first marriage with Aislinn O'sullivan and one with his current wife Morleigh Steinberg.

The Edge is characterised by the hats that he wears. His hair started to thin in his early twenties. His trademarked guitar style of play, emphasises reverbs and delays to create a chimmering sound and prefers to use his guitar to offer a supportive melody, rather than performing outlandish guitar solos.

Like fellow band member Bono, The Edge has also been involved in charity work. Most notably the 'Music Rising' charity, which focused on helping victims of Hurricane Katrina.

In 2003, The Edge was named as the 24th best guitarist in the Rolling Stone Magazine's, 'The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time' listing.
